In a Japanese traditional style room you can see a vacant space like a built-in closet without doors. This space is called Tokonoma, and the floor is higher than other area of a room. Tokonoma has hanging partition wall, so it can be called alcobe in English. We display flowers or art objects matches with each season here.
Originally Tokonoma was a place for worshipping Buddha statues and has been the holy space of a house. When I was small my mother always told me that Tokonoma should be kept clean, and should not be set foot in.

Originally the place should not be set paw in,too!!
Yesterday I started to learn Ikebana. Ikebana is the Japanese traditional style flower arrangement.
It had been my dream to arrange Ikebana for Tokonoma by myself.

Moss on the branch of Rhododendron tells this was taken in deep valley.

Autumn bellflower (spotted petals)
We use a shallow flower vase for Ikebana.
Nyagoo put his paw in the water and tasted the water!
I have heard that some plants are toxic to cats.
So I put a few lemon drops in the water to prevent him drink the water from flower vase…
He doesn’t like that.(^^;)
Thank you for reading this to the end!
